The film had it’s UK premiere at the Prince Charles Cinema on Friday 24th July, which turned out to be a brilliantly fun evening.
Aware that most of the UK audience would be new to the film (and the audience rituals developed by the US audiences over the past few years) we handed out a plastic spoon and a copy of the viewers guide to each person as they came in.
The audience totally embraced the rituals and from the off there was lots of laughter, mocking, shouting and spoon throwing… fantastic fun!
Nick Ahlmark introduced the film, with a message from Tommy; “You can laugh, you can cry, you can express yourselves but please – don’t hurt eachother”.
At the end of the screening we had a competition with 5 people from the audience coming on stage to reenact the notorious “You’re tearing me apart Lisa” line and the audience voting the winner, who won a signed t-shirt from Tommy.
Charlie Brooker also came along and said in the Guardian G2 the following week “It really is the most entertainingly terrible film ever made.”
Were you at this screening? What did you think?
