Citizen Kane of bad film is a hit at the Prince Charles

A film which is so bad that it has developed a cult following received its UK premiere at the Prince Charles Cinema off Leicester Square on Friday night.

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room is an American drama recounting a love triangle in San Francisco. When one actor left, Wiseau apparently handed the dialogue to a different character.

The film was made in 2003 and has gradually built up a fan base in Los Angeles, where it regularly plays to interactive midnight screenings.

The Room has been cited by many critics as one of the worst films ever made, and has been called “the Citizen Kane of bad movies.” The Room received its television debut in the USA this year when it was shown on Adult Swim at 12:00am on 1 April — the network’s annual April Fools Day joke.

Tickets sold well for the first UK outing. The Prince Charles’ Robin Priestley said: “It’s been amazing for a film that’s so awful.”
